LoopHuntr

Loops for gravel, mountain-bike and road cycling, hiking and trail running, built on the iPhone from a start point and a target distance, with an optional climb target; offline once a zone of France is downloaded.

State
Release preparation is under way (16 Oct): one of five gates is passed, the second is still open, and nothing has been submitted to the App Store. m

Known limits

  • Uneven success in steep terrain: 13 % of attempts accepted for 60 km and 1,200 m, 0 to 7 % in the Cévennes, 61 % on easy ground. m
  • Climb is computed from a 30 m elevation model and has never been compared with a barometric altimeter. m
  • Metropolitan France only, and the interface is in French only. m
  • No field test by anyone else yet. m

  1. decision

After a state-of-the-art study read against the code, four generator changes are planned and will be measured one at a time: a climb floor, diverse candidates, local improvement, a second climb calculation. m

  2. milestone

Release preparation is run in numbered lots with independent review. The first of five gates, traceable work, is passed. m

  3. milestone

Offline data goes live: France is cut into 1° cells, signed, and served from the project's own server. The manifest now lists 99 cells, about 5.7 GB. m

  4. measure

Share of attempts that yield an accepted loop, measured on a Mac: 61 % for a lowland 35 km gravel loop, 13 % for 60 km and 1,200 m, 0 to 7 % in the Cévennes. Per attempt, not per request. m

  5. decision

A spike accepts 19 % of 512 generated loops, 52 % in its best run on one zone and 8 to 32 % on two other zones (Cévennes, Provence). The project moves to a native iPhone app anyway, with a measured quality gate. m

  6. milestone

A first web prototype, built on Replit as TrailGenius, shows GPX files and Strava rides on a map. It has no loop generation. m
